Ubisoft unleashes Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter teasers - Image 1It’s been a while since we were able to encounter juicy tidbits of information regarding Ubisoft and their games. Well, we decided to drop by their official site and we were treated to a teaser for their GRAW game franchise.

Upon opening the page, our eyes locked instantly locked on to a flash overlay set-up. We found interesting visual elements that piqued our interest. Included in this mysterious presentation are a couple of audiovisual content; some are accessible, some aren’t. It’s said that these files were recovered from the MACSAT or Multiply Access Commercial Satellite.

Little can be made out of the things featured in the flash teaser. It seems that the company has plans of adding something new to the GRAW series. Could this instance signal the coming of a sequel to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 by Ubisoft for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the Personal computer?

Well, we’ll just have to wait and see. So until then, keep your eyes locked on to our site for more updates.

Sub-$1,000 Blu-ray Laptop Now Available from Dell - Image 1Here’s one for the budget conscious gadgetphile: a Blu-ray laptop that’s going for less than US 1,000, the latest in Dell’s Inspiron line.

The Inspiron 1525 has a base price of US 879, with a 15.4-inch high-def wide aspect display and 720p resolution. Nice figures to go with the Blu-ray player.

The laptop comes in a variety of colors (as you can see in the photo). It comes in a spectrum of fancy-named shades like Chill, Blossom and Commotion, Sunshine Yellow, Midnight Blue, and Ruby Red.

Several accessories are also available for the laptop, including a trim travel power adapter (US 80), Dell travel remote control (US 22), and noise-isolation earphones (US 25). The Inspiron 1525 is already available in the US, Canada, and Europe.

Now that the format war is over, we should expect that other companies will be pitching their own Blu-ray technology soon. Check back for more mobile gadgetry news.

MGM is one studio that licenses its properties to video game publishers - Image 1These days, it isn’t just the “pure” video game publishers that publish video games; motion picture studios are also in on the business. Thing is, depending on the studio, some might opt to have a sister company do the work instead of going the direct route.

Here’s short summary of how the various movie studios stand with regard to licensing and video game publishing:

  • Disney: Walt Disney Studios lets its sister Disney Interactive Studios (DIS) publish a lot of family-oriented games. DIS also publishes other games that aren’t based on Disney titles.
  • Fox: This one licenses its properties to video game publishers.
  • Lionsgate: Licenses its properties to video game publishers.
  • MGM: This studio also licenses its properties to publishers.
  • Paramount: While the studio has traditionally licensed out all its properties, it’s also starting to get into video game publishing itself.
  • Sony Photos: Its corporate sibling, Sony Personal Entertainment, is maker of the PlayStation consoles and the games for those consoles. Sony Photos licenses out its properties to various different videogame publishers.
  • Universal: This one also licenses out all its properties to video game publishers.
  • Warner Bros.: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (WBIE) owns developer Monolith. It oversees licensing to other publishers for some Warner. Bros properties that it doesn’t handle. Warner also owns a 10 stake in Eidos.

As you can see from the list above, all of the studios are either into either licensing out motion picture rights for games, or publishing games themselves, or both. It’s hardly surprising, given how some of the games of this day are sometimes marketed as “interactive movies.”

Mega Man] - Image 1Capcom has some good and bad news for its fans. First, the bad news: Capcom has officially scrapped its Gamer’s Day event. The good news? Capcom has replaced it with CAPTIVATE08, a brand new media summit.

And the even better news: they’ll invite five lucky gamers into the event, and let them actually experience new games way ahead of their peers. Their peers, who will be left to click websites in search of hot gaming news.

CAPTIVATE08 will be held in Las Vegas at the end of Might. Of course, gamers can anticipate massive announcements to be made in this media event, but it’ll be even superior to experience the event firsthand rather than reading about it in major gaming news-oriented sites, of course.

So, how does one get hold of a CAPTIVATE08 Golden Ticket? Capcom’s Chris Kramer, who broke the news for Capcom’s own Capcom Unity blog, wasn’t able to disclose the actual mechanics on how to qualify for the invites. Instead, he mentioned that they’ll announce it the next month. Until then, check back for more updates.
