Heavy Weapons Guy - Image 1Steam has some pretty large additions as of late. First off is an update to Valve’s Team Fortress 2. The update fixes the crash issues experienced by many users when using a Linux machine as a dedicated server.

Another big development is Ubisoft’s participation in the service. Most of its marquee franchises will soon be available for download, including the Tom Clancy games and the Heroes of Might & Magic series.

More importantly, console big-seller Assassin’s Creed will now be available for on the internet pre-order via Steam. Personal computer gamers will now be able to take part in Altair’s high-definition battles in the Crusades. More titles are set to follow, and we’ll be sure to keep you updated.

For the folks at Ubisoft, HAWX are more than just birds of prey – they’re fighter-interceptors. We know this because Ubisoft recently revealed a debut trailer of Tom Clancy’s HAWX for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, and boy, does it look intense.

The acronym in Ubisoft’s new title apparently symbolizes High Altitude Warfare X. You’ll be seeing a lot of dogfighting, as the game reportedly allows you to pilot more than 50 planes at your disposal. Ubisoft has set the game in the year 2012, where private military companies (PMCs) are prevalent.

Tom Clancy’s HAWX sports an Enhanced Reality System (ERS). This basically includes such nifty options as radars, incoming missile detection, an anti-crash system, a damage control system, a tactical map, an information relay, and weapons trajectory control.

The ERS also grants players to give commands to their AI squadron. An Assistance Mode puts pilots into a maximum safety mode. Players may opt to switch the Assistance Mode off if they prefer more freedom and control, but this will also put them at greater risk without it.

Ubisoft’s Tom Clancy’s HAWX purportedly supports four-player jump-in co-op play and a versus mode where up to 16 players can battle on the internet for experience points and in-game cash. Winners might then use their winnings to unlock new weapons.

But enough of that. It’s superior if you see it for yourself instead of merely reading about it, so feast your eyes on the Eurofighter Typhoon in action below:

Box art for Alone in the Dark - Image 1One thing that fans of Alone in the Dark (Computer, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii) won’t appreciate is being kept in the dark about the title’s release date.

Fortunately, Atari has confirmed the release date for most versions of the upcoming game: it’s June 20 for Europe and June 24 for the US. The dates mentioned above apply to the Xbox 360, Computer, PS2 and Wii versions of the game, with a PS3 version to follow later this year.

The release date was reportedly pushed back from May to ensure that Alone in the Dark will be as good as it can possibly be. An Atari representative mentioned that Eden Games wanted to polish the game further.

In spite of this, the developer remains confident about its product:

We want to deliver the ideal possible experience to gamer, because we’ve a remarkable product. We ve been getting an extraordinary response from the people that have seen it in demos. We ll soon be supplying code to the market.

Call of Duty 4 map pack not delayed, update on Game of the Year Editions - Image 1Great news to those waiting for the release of the map packs for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Personal computer, PS3, Xbox 360)! Robert Bowling wrote in his blog that the maps are not delayed, contrary to the information that it’s been pushed back to April 10.

As of this writing, the certification of the packs are already set for an on-time launch for April 3 or 4. That’s today or tomorrow. There’s a high probability that it could be released later tonight (save for Japan) or early Friday morning. As soon as they’re up, you guys can use the tokens to get your hands on the map packs.

Along with this update, Bowling said that he’s currently putting in effort so that the correct release date would reflect in the system which will grant those who purchased the Game of the Year Editions to get their respective codes for the tokens.

Now you guys a breathe a sigh of relief. It’s just a matter of hours before you can enjoy the four new maps for the FPS game. We’ll keep you guys posted for more updates.
