Competition is tight this season with more than FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer to keep footie fans occupied. Electronic Arts managed to secure the privilege of producing the official Euro 2008 video game, then came UEFA Euro 2008 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PSP, PC). When all is stated and done, what we really want to see are epic matches between the world’s best.

With that said, here’s a batch of videos demonstrating UEFA Euro 2008’s gameplay with usual tourney participants. England’s national team making an appearance might strike some as odd since it didn’t qualify, but we can’t really complain when EA wanted 52 countries in its roster. After all, the game’s main mode grants players to stick with their teams from qualification until the actual tournament.

We’ve seen the Dark Knight in a number of reports recently (this writer’s latest waking nightmare) and well, while we like seeing Batman in his many incarnations, we like to take sneak peeks at his enemies too. We saw Harley Quinn in screenshots and now Traveler’s Tales has released a new video for their upcoming video game, Lego Batman: The Videogame (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, PSP, and Computer) featuring The Riddler and Catwoman.

In Lego Batman: The Videogame, we’ll be seeing the villains The Riddler and Catwoman with their respective weapons (the question mark cane and the whip) and as we can see from the trailer, they’re not afraid to use them. The feisty feline and the OC wordplay enthusiast have fun and individual animations, and well, they’re out to spread some chaos in Gotham City.

We’ll quit babbling now and leave you with the Lego Batman: The Video Game video. Keep checking back for more updates about this block-tastic title.

A political map of Afghanistan - Image 1If an Afghanistan legislative committee gets its way, US Marines will probably be the only ones playing video games in Afghanistan. Why, you ask? Because the very same committee has drafted a bill that seeks to impose strict codes of morality on its citizens. That includes banning a lot of things that Afghan people consider to be entertainment – even video games.

The draft still needs to have two things before it can become a law: the approval of both chambers of parliament and the signature of President Hamid Karzai. The draft of the bill reportedly outlaws the following:

  • women wearing make-up in public
  • women dancers performing during concerts, events, or on Television
  • young boys wearing female fashions (bracelets, necklaces, hair-bands and “feminist dresses”)
  • Indian soap opera dramas on private TV networks
  • video games
  • dog and bird-fighting
  • pigeon-flying
  • billiards
  • loud music during wedding parties (as well as both sexes congregating during such parties)

If the proposals are passed, violators could be fined anywhere from 500 to 5,000 Afghanis (approximately anywhere from US 10 to US 104). It sure puts the campaign against violent video games in perspective, doesn’t it?
