The final week before we get to steal cars and live the American Dream in Grand Theft Auto 4 is not without worthwhile video game releases to keep us occupied. For the most part, it’s good to be a Nintendo DS owner since Japan’s most appealing handheld titles finally reach shelves. Square Enix‘ stylish The World Ends With You spearheads the list, as famed character designer Tetsuya Nomura’s gig is ready to make some noise.
Battle of the Bands. If you thought you’ve proven your skill in Rock Band or Guitar Hero 3, here’s one rhythm game that promises to up the ante. With 30 tracks across rock, country, marching band, hip hop, and ranchero genres, Battle of the Bands lets you play several songs in each match with weapons such as smoke bombs to, well, smoke the competition.
Chameleon. Puzzle game enthusiasts who love to bring colored blocks together might want to check out Chameleon. Aside from bubbly characters to cheer you on, the game mixes things up a bit by focusing on competitive matches where players try to ideal each other in Goal Mode or King Mode.
Dream Pinball 3D. As its title implies, there’s a lot of pinball to be had here. Six tables with different themes, various ball effects, bonus objectives, and secret areas compose the complete 3D pinball experience.
NBA Ballers: Chosen One. Shoot hoops and impress with showboat dunks, but with a fiercer attitude this time since it takes more than skill to shine as the Chosen One. Midway tagged the latest NBA Ballers under the fighting game genre for good reason – it’s not just about attacking the ring, but also bringing your enemy down.
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness/Explorers of Time. After both flavors of the hottest Pokemon-themed dungeon crawl racked sales in Japan, it’s about time North America gets a piece of treasure hunting. The two Pokemon Mystery Dungeon titles hold different exclusives, so you’ll need both to catch ‘em all.
River King: Mystic Valley. The latest in the long-running River King series on the DS utilizes its platform’s touch screen for an intuitive and fun fishing experience. Add dozens of baits, lures, and rods at your disposal, then you’re ready to catch the mysterious River King.
Target: Terror. This terrifying game will have you shoot at terrorists using none other than the Wii Remote. Straight from the arcade version, full Wii Zapper support means you can enjoy the classic shooter the way it was meant to be played in the comforts of your living room.
The World Ends With You. Modern Japan in a bag best describes Tetsuya Nomura’s first offering on the DS. It’s got stylish teenagers stuck in Shibuya as they play the Reapers’ Game to save the town, equipped with pins which allow them to pull off crazy combos that take place on both screens of the handheld.
Turok. Badass protagonist with funky hair meets dinosaurs in the jungle – we’ve seen it before, and it’s coming to the Personal computer at long last. Joseph Turok is still the man, and he’s going to fight minions of his former mentor Roland Kane again. Got the rig to make first-person shooters look ideal? This is for you.
Wild Earth: African Safari. Nature lovers will feel right at home with Wild Earth: African Safari, a lighthearted adventure on the Wii where your job is to take photos of wildlife in Africa. For that picture perfect snapshot, you can play from the animal’s perspective then ensure you’re out of its view.

Hines said that “when you build it [Fallout 3] as one thing, there’s no way to portion off a section and have it stand on its own without putting the whole game in the demo.” He added that this is something that they’re “just not going to do.” Of course, not providing a demo might just be for the best. Hines made a very interesting point regarding this saying that a demo “doesn’t really capture the fun of a game like an Elder Scrolls or a Fallout.” This pretty much means that we’re all going to have to wait for the game’s launch date before we get to try it out. Until then, we’re going to have to satisfy our Fallout urges by either playing the first two games or going over screenshots and gameplay vids. Looks like the game is going to be worth the wait. The first video is a short story clip, showing Ed Carnby trying to find out what happened to him in the past. The second video shows Ed as he descends into darkness, and tries to traverse a city wrapped in fire and chaos. The last three videos are action-packed gameplay montages where we see Ed do crazy things like climb up a cliff while a blazing helicopter teeters on the edge of falling, and finding new ways to open doors (by setting them on fire). Dan Houser on marketing games, moving away from holiday cycle salesPosted by admin in Video Games
According to Rockstar Games vice president, the video games industry need to mature and move away from the “seasonal sales cycle”. He further reiterated his point: Christmas has always been massive and it’s always going to be, but it’s gotten so focused in video games. I think for the next stage of its maturity as a business it needs to move out anyway. It’s interesting to see what’s hopefully going to be the biggest release this year not going at Christmas. Apart from that, Dan Houser also talked about marketing video game titles in general. According to the official, Rockstar Games has lifted its marketing strategy of treating titles as cultural products from the motion picture industry. “No ads have been cut out-of-house. We use a media buyer. Apart from that, we’ve always believed in doing that stuff ourselves. Our belief is this is a cultural product and we comprehend how to present it superior than an advertising bureau ever could,” stated Houser. In the end, Dan Houser said that marketing gamers is pretty simple. It’s not about hype, it’s not about platforms. According to him, the bottom line which should be kept in mind is simply this: “If the game is of high quality, it will sell“. source pc.qj.net

Hong Kong Electronics Fair: Wiimote-like controller for PCPosted by admin in Video GamesAt the recent Hong Kong Electronics fair, a demo was shown for the Computer platform that might also capture the interest of Nintendo Wii owners. On the said event, a peripheral was revealed that acts like Nintendo’s Wiimote. Note that the demo is just for that and there’s still no word if this will be implemented or if it will be mass produced for public consumption. But just the same, the prospect of it being a reality is just as exciting.
