Spore Creature Creator and demo coming June 17 for PC and Mac OS X - Image 1

Spore may have familiar elements for fans of Maxis games, but you have to admit it’s quite a jump from what we’re normally used to seeing from the studio. In Spore, you’re going to design your own species, starting from its roots as a single celled organism.

For those who are still in doubts whether the game will be worth the cash, here’s your opportunity to lay your mind at rest. Maxis and Electronic Arts will be releasing the Spore Creature Creator demo version of the game for the Mac and the Personal computer on June 17.

The demo will let you’ve control of 25 of the creature-making parts from Spore. While your choices of creating your species is limited, Computer gamers will still have access to the video uploading feature, which allows you to show off your creature on YouTube.

Logo of Warner Bros Home Entertainment - Image 1After SCi recently initiated an open offer deal to raise additional funds for the company, it looks like someone has taken the bait. Warner Bros Home Entertainment recently subscribed up to 15 million (US 30 million) worth of new shares in the company and announced a new strategic partnership with the house behind the Tomb Raider series.

Warner Bros will now handle the distribution of SCi titles in North America, Canada, and Mexico. SCi CEO Phil Rogers was ecstatic with the new partnership and committed Warner Bros into becoming a major presence in the video game industry.

SCi’s initial plan involved raising 60 million (US 120 million) through a fully underwritten placing and open offer, which will give the company new financing to deliver high-quality games with focus on cornerstone studios core franchises.

As an added note, SCi was happy to announce that progress for Tomb Raider: Underworld (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS, Computer) was going smoothly with a worldwide release scheduled before Christmas. Hopefully, this new conglomeration will spell even more noteworthy games for the company’s popular franchises like Tomb Raider, Hitman, and Deus Ex.

Codemasters now runs Sega Racing Studio in UK - Image 1A couple of days ago, some of the readers here will probably remember Sega’s announcement regarding their plans to shut down their Birmingham-based Racing Studio.

This new was followed up by a current rumor stating that Codemasters was making moves to purchase the studio.

Guess what – it’s all true. Codemasters has just sent out a press wire confirming that they’ve taken over Sega Racing Studio. From the way Codemasters’ CEO Rod Cousens phrased his statement, it appears that most of the guys there will be keeping their jobs too:

In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment. We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still.

For their part, Codemasters has developed some pretty solid racing titles such as Colin McRae: DiRT for the Xbox 360, Computer, and PlayStation 3 . The Racing Studio on the other hand was responsible for Sega Rally Revo (Computer, Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP). Here’s to hoping that this new acquisition will be bringing us more games like these in the near future. Drop by again in case we pick up any further updates.

It is Zerg versus Zerg in StarCraft 2 - Image 1As long as a game isn’t out yet, anticipate curious players to ask a plethora of questions about it. Fortunately, Blizzard blue poster Karune has taken the time to post answers to some of those StarCraft 2 questions you might have. This Q & A round tackles Terran Rectors, Zerg Roaches, Protoss Immortals and what not.

Regarding the Protoss, it appears that only the Mothership and the Immortal (upgraded with Hardened Shields) can survive the Terran Nuclear Strike. Also, the High Templar’s Hallucination Ability has been buffed since the last StarCraft. Hallucinated units take double damage and last for around two to three units. Hallucinating a unit only costs 40 energy, too.

Over on the Zerg side, the Roach currently regenerates 15 hit points per second, allowing it to reach full health in six seconds.

He stated that during at this time, video games won’t be able to crossover from gaming consoles to a broader entertainment device. Amor said that, as of the moment, the video games are still “miles away” from reaching the mass market.

But as time passes by, Amor believes that with each generation that comes along, the stigma on video games will become decreasingly apparent. Amor added that some games that have been able to help reshape the way people view video games.

Even if this happens to be the case, video games still have a long road ahead before they have the ability to reach the mass market. Amor said:

So the stigma’s gone away, people are realizing that it can appeal to a wider set of people, mothers and dads are playing Brain Training, Buzz!, SingStar, so it’s certainly going in the right direction, but we’re a long way off real mass market.

If you only appeal to a certain section of people, you can’t get the hardware sales beyond a certain point.

Devil May Cry 4 - Image 1

Computer gamers looking forward to the release of Capcom’s Devil Might Cry 4 had to wait months longer than their console counterparts, but that doesn’t matter now as the publishers have confirmed its Summer 2008 release.

Capcom states good things come to those who wait, and in this case, it couldn’t be more true. DMC 4’s PC version will have two new modes and visuals amped up to new extremes.

The first new mode is the Turbo Mode which pushes the action to insane speeds which weren’t possible in the consoles. Also included is the legendary Dark Knight Mode that’ll challenge even seasoned veterans with areas in the game overflowing with more monsters than the consoles could handle before.

For those who have an eye for eye-popping visuals, cut scenes will now move at 120 frames per second. This is a large leap taking into account that console versions only sported 30 frames a tick.

A demo will be released prior to DMC 4’s shelf debut so owners can test how their systems will perform with it. Launch dates haven’t been revealed, but we’ll inform you as soon as new word is out.
