Arcania first details from German PC Games magazine - Image 1We got a loaded update for fans of the Gothic game franchise. It’s definitely something that’ll whet your appetites for JoWood’s upcoming Gothic 4: Arcania.

The June issue of the German Personal computer Games magazine has been given out in advanced to a few lucky subscribers. Inside the issue were some tasty treats on the RPG.

To make things easy to read, we’ve placed the details in bullet form. Here are the things that you can anticipate when the game is finally released:

  • Fully titled Gothic 4: Arcania (as opposed to the previous subtitle Genesis).
  • Story set 10 years after the third title and located on various southern islands, each having different climate zones and its own flora & fauna.
  • Same as in previous titles, there’ll be a hidden place (temporarily blocked by a magical shield/barrier).
  • Weather changes, full day and night cycle plus the ability to temporarily cast a spell and change the time of day (e.g. from day to night when you need to slip past guards unnoticed).
  • Aside few NPCs from the previous title, some monsters will have a fresh look (however, trolls look the same as in Gothic III).
  • With the ability to climb and ride on beasts.

Tanya Byron's video game review cost about USD 544,000 - Image 1We got some interesting information on the video game review made by Dr. Tanya Byron. With it, Dr. Byron examined the classification system used on video games, wherein she criticized the BBFC and PEGI.

Now, let’s get down to business. Get a hold of this. The total cost of the study she did was 275,000. That’s around US$544,000.

Hands down, just like what Epic Games head honcho Mark Rein says all the time, Unreal Tournament is more about the mods than frantic first-person shooter out of the box. The most recent user-created mod we encountered, called UT2D Super Mario, flipped Unreal Tournament 3 to 2D and took the novel idea further by setting it on a very familiar backdrop.

As you would have guessed by now, the mod in question is the original Super Mario Bros. revived in Unreal Tournament 3. Created by FrontAXL, UT2D Super Mario is a 2D map complete with NES Mario elements such as power-up blocks and classic sound effects. It’s currently in beta stage, but playable enough to quench your thirst for 2D blood baths.

UT2D Super Mario is available for both Sony PS3 and PC versions of Unreal Tournament 3. You can download it from the release thread which you can find by clicking on the “via” link, or watch footage embedded below.

New screenshots are in for the upcoming survival-horror game from Valve Corporation, Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC), bringing you some classic fleeing-from-zombie-horde action. Swift question: if you’re undead… you’re alive?

Surprisingly we don’t hear much about the game these days. The last we hard about the game was that Valve was open to discussing a PlayStation 3 port for the game, but after that it’s been pretty quiet.

What we’d really like to hear though is a solid release date for the game. It’s still up in the air for the third quarter of this year, but other than that, nada. We’ll keep you posted though, so check back for more updates on Left 4 Dead.

Motorola - Image 1

Here’s something mobile phone connoisseurs should look out for: Motorola just recently submitted documents concerning a certain Linux-powered handheld to the Federal Communications Commission (yes, it’s the FCC). This mobile is called the A810, and it looks care about it packs quite a punch aside from it having a Linux OS.

According to the FCC exhibits for the device, the A810 has a touchscreen, with onscreen keyboard, and handwriting recognition. Some small perks are also added to it, like FM radio and such. There’s a small snag about the availability of this device within the U.S. shores, because it lacks the GSM 850MHz bandwidth.

We’ll be keeping tabs on this device, so stay tuned for more updates.

NASA, m2mi team up to build space-bound networking system - Image 1While mobile technology is still content with the number 3, NASA already has its sights on the fifth generation telecommunications system, or 5G.

Working together m2mi, NASA plans to launch an armada of small satellites that only weight between 11 and 110 pounds. These satellites are appropriately called nanosatellites, and will be launched in groups called “constellations.”

These satellites pave the way for 5G mobile technology, incorporating Voice Over World wide web Protocol, video, data, wireless, and an integrated machine-to-machine intelligence layer in the technology.

Machine-to-machine intelligence, or m2mi, provides a seamless exchange and use of information between machines. We don’t know how fast that’s, but “very, very fast” would likely be an appropriate description. Hopefully, lags will be left behind in 3G.
