Mario isn’t the only one that’s going to be speeding his way into gamers’ hands these days. Vivendi Games Mobile has recently fielded Crash Bandicoot and his friends to compete against one another in 16 different tracks across eight exciting environments for the mobile gaming platform with Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart in Europe.
Available in both 2D (for Java phones) and 3D (for Symbian devices), the game allows you to select one of your favorite Crash Bandicoot characters as you race through the Crash universe with other wacky icons from the series.
There are ten different weapons to make this action-packed racer more interesting, as well as several very special power-ups like Kart Jacking and Turbo Plane to help players overtake their fellow competitors.
Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart is actually a sequel to the highly successful mobile game released in 2004. Since then the game has already sold over three million mobile phone unit sales worldwide.
To celebrate the launch of the game, Vivendi Games Mobile has organized a Crash Bandicoot Grand Prix event in each of the main European markets. Key players from the mobile gaming industry and selected customers will go head to head against one another in this manic go-kart tournament for a chance to win some sweet Crash Bandicoot prizes.

News have been circulating about 3D Realms’ Duke Nukem Forever for a couple of years now, and we still have to see anything concrete about it at all. So what’s taking this first person shooter forever?
Much speculations have been given, with some saying that it won’t actually come to fruition, while some still firmly cling on to the belief that it will one day soon grace our next-gens. Well, Shack News apparently is a believer as they have just reported that the game does actually exist.
Steve Gibson of the said site has proclaimed that he has seen it with his very own eyes, along with Maarten. He claims that he has witnessed for himself “several different DNF gameplay scenarios, mechanics, and environments being demonstrated.”
Apart from these, he says that he’s also seen in actuality what Duke curator George Broussard has claimed in the past and more: environmental puzzles and interactivity, a host of finished weapons, the existence of an in-game forklift, and plenty of heads and arms being blown off.
It sure has taken a while before any teeny-weeny bit of information dropped on us on DNF. And from the looks of things, with all the mystery surrounding it, this title should actually look pretty darned good. But for now, it certainly remains to be some form of videogaming sasquatch. You know, the type that everybody’s talked about, but haven’t really seen.
We’ll keep you posted for more updates on this intensifying mystery as soon as we get them.

Peter Sydow of Massive Entertainment stated at the Sierra Spring Break 08 that two new levels for World in Conflict: Soviet Assault would be gracing the Personal computer, PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360 platforms real soon. But unlike most DLC offerings, the PC version isn’t free – in fact, Sydow claims that it’s going to cost strategists a small sum.
“The Russian levels will be as add-ons sold separately to Computer users,” stated Sydow. He couldn’t confirm the cost of the add-on, but he did claim that it would be cheaper than an expansion. Sydow explains:
In fact, we re not granted to call it an expansion pack. Marketing won t even allow us to call it a mission pack, so add-on is the correct word at the moment.
Soviet Assault will take players into the post-Cold War conflict ravaging the world, only this time from the invaders’ perspective. Sydow promises that the Russian characters will not be the “Americanized Russian” types.
“How would Russians feel? How would the Soviet Union feel in a war? And how would it feel to be a soldier there?” the project manager continued.
World in Conflict: Soviet Assault – at least for the Xbox 360 – will sport voice command support for ordering squads around. But unlike most mishaps with voice command features, Soviet Assault won’t be as discriminating against accents.
He explained, “The software is phonetically-based, so 90 percent of accents should be recognised.” He did offer that he experienced difficulties with some commands, however.
Soviet Assault will not include cross-platform play, though, he says. That’s because the console versions are designed to be easier than the Personal computer versions.
Because the Personal computer version had loads of options for budding strategists, he added, “The PC game is more geeky than the console version. In fact, most PC games and gamers are geekier than console games and gamers.”
Anticipate World in Conflict: Soviet Assault to arrive on your platform by fall of 2008, if not real late this year. More updates as we get them.

On Sierra Spring Break 08, developer Terminal Reality managed to show off what was great with its Infernal Engine and how it brought the popular proton-blasting heroes to new life in Ghostbusters: The Videogame. But most importantly, it was mentioned that the original cast of the previous Ghostbusters movies lent a helping hand to also revitalize the story and plot.
“[Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis] co-wrote the script for the videogame. They introduced a lot of stuff that we didn t think of,” said Terminal Reality president Mark Randel. He added that Ramis (Egon, Ghostbusters) added a heroine to the game, and introduced that virtual lady as a love interest for Peter Venkman (you know, the womanizing parapsychologist played by Bill Murray).
Aykroyd (Ray, Ghostbusters), who will start recording his voice for the game this week, also listed all the equipment that the Ghostbusters use and put that into the mythos of the game.
In continuance to being faithful to the franchise, Terminal Reality will be including Stay Puf’t, the popular Ghostbuster mascot, in the game, and will even be using the original theme by Ray Parker Jr. for the soundtrack – totally un-remixed.

If you’ve been keeping up with the takeover dealie with SCi Entertainment, then you’d have caught wind of the company revealing that it had just shot down one of its potential suitors. Now we catch wind of that suitor itself revealing its identity to the public, and it’s none other than Infogrames, the people who brought us the Alone in the Dark series. Let’s see what they’ve to state about the deal that could’ve been.
So, just what went wrong? No one knows for sure, but Infogrames did say that they’d quite the interesting offer to make SCi. They didn’t reveal the numbers or the financial details of this offer, but they did state that as a company, it had what SCi Entertainment was looking for in a potential buyer. Infogrames’ statement, verbatim:
Infogrames has adequate resources to satisfy the cash element of its indicative offer and has secured commitments in relation to the potential working capital stipulations of the enlarged group. Importantly, Infogrames is in a position to move expeditiously with its proposal.
Well, that certainly explains the mystery suitor that SCi turned down in an earlier update. It’s just too bad that Infogrames got turned down – it certainly would’ve been interesting to see what the Alone in the Dark team could have done with Lara Croft, seeing as they’ve the moolah to make the relationship work. Updates as we get them.

Although Portal (Xbox 360, PS3, Computer) was released along with a bunch of other title in The Orange Box, Valve once had the idea to release the game via Xbox Live. Unfortunately, Microsoft turned down the idea.
Doug Lombardi, marketing director at Valve, explained that there were technical aspects that wouldn’t let the game be distributed via XBL:
We’d love to do that. Right now it’s something we’d love to do. I’d love to sell Portal on Xbox Live [but] the platform holders aren’t doing that right now. There’s a size limit and all kinds of other things.
We’ve asked them, we said we were open to it. So it’s a decision for the platform holder and how they want to make the games available and how much bandwidth they want to [allow].
It always happens once it’s been proven and I think it’s been proven now on Steam, so I’m sure it’ll migrate back to the consoles just like everything else does.
Well who knows? Maybe Portal’s sequel will be the one to hit XBL. Last year, Microsoft increased the size limit of Xbox Live Arcade games from 50 MB to 150 MB. Maybe they’ll stretch it even further.

After much stirring lately, Ubisoft has now formally announced to the press that a new Prince of Persia title is indeed heading our way. How soon, you ask? If Ubisoft Montreal’s dev schedules go according to plan, you can expect it dropping into retail towards the end of this year.
What’s more is that the platforms for the new game have also been revealed: PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, plus another one specifically designed for the DS. Hmm, kinda reminds you of Assassin’s Creed’s platform releases, doesn’t it? The DS version is stated to even include “an entirely new storyline and new characters.”
As for details, not much have been given. Aside from a projected release date and the confirmed platforms for Prince of Persia, the press release only hints at a couple of other things. Namely, that the new game will be “introducing a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe” and have an “illustrative art style.”
Illustrative art style? That’s definitely interesting. Some of you might assume that we could have a Wind Waker or Okami-style cel-shaded game on our laps come Winter. Wait, cel-shaded?
Well, if you look at Ubisoft Montreal’s record, they just released Naruto: Rise of a Ninja for the 360 late last year. With that in mind, cel-shaded graphics are pretty much within their abilities. However, if it does turn out to be cel-shaded, it might not sit well with some traditional fans who have already grown used to the nature of the Sands of Time series.
We’ll just have to wait for more details, of course. Screenshots would most definitely be a welcome too – cel-shaded or otherwise. For now, the teaser site from a few days ago is the only thing to go by; yes, it’s a legit site.
Thanks to spicyhamster for the tip!

Many gamers have long waited for this gaming week to come. Why? It’s the release of the oft-delayed Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar North’s highly controversial and much awaited video game. Those itching to annoy cops or run over pedestrians – while fulfilling missions on the side, of course – will finally get their long desired chance upon GTA4’s launch for both the Microsoft Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
But Nintendo Wii owners won’t be left out of this hectic games week, since Nintendo will be rolling out Mario Kart Wii, the fast (and sometimes chaotic) racing title. This week is pretty much a battle between blue shells and organized/disorganized crimes, as well as iron-clad heroes in the form of the multi-platform release of the Iron Man movie tie-in game. Are you ready? If you are, then let’s start off the list with…
Grand Theft Auto 4. We’ve been waiting for this title for a long time coming, and gamers have endured a lot of flak from the likes of Jack Thompson while lying in wait for the release of much-anticipated sequel to the popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. With a handful of impressive review scores under its belt, expect the exploits of immigrant Niko Bellic to generate a lot of commotion once gamers finally get to experience his sordid adventure in Liberty City.
Mario Kart Wii. The latest iteration of Nintendo’s Mario-themed racer for the Wii finally hit the streets, promising more than a handful of tracks to race in, both old and new. Mario Kart Wii also features a lot of mayhem in the form of usable items (look out for that Blue Shell!) and the addition of the capability to ride dirt bikes in races. This may be the wackiest Wii racer to date; and if you’re a massive fan of the genre, there shouldn’t be any reason why you shouldn’t grab this game.

Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor. Touted by Stardock as “the most comprehensive expansion pack in strategy game history,” this add-on includes a new vehicle called the APC, a multi-purpose ride that can serve as a customizable weapons platform of sorts, as well as a mobile spawn point. This update also includes the new, icy Vaporfield Glacier battlefield.

Unlike other brain training games in the market, Brain Voyage whisks Nintendo DS gamers to various locations around the world, trying to solve each and every mind-bender that comes their way during their adventures. A nice, new twist to the usual brain training game.

- ESRB Everyone
- Eidos Interactive
Roogoo. Fans of eclectic, ultra-colorful puzzle games will no doubt be taken by Spidermonk Entertainment’s Roogoo, where players are tasked to guide meteors through rotating discs, taking care not to hit the planet Roo. Like most puzzle games, the premise sounds easy – until you actually get your hands on the game itself. With its fun and whimsical setting, Roogoo will more or less be a shoo-in for those who like quirky games such as Katamari Damacy.
