Some people believe that storytelling in video games is secondary in terms of priority compared to the gameplay aspect. Much like doing the melody of a song before writing its lyrics, there’s nothing wrong with this process. EA Redwood Shores, however, concurs to disagree with it. Especially in the case of Dead Space.

The devs say that they want to take the path less taken and they’ve constructed a rich back story for their upcoming game Dead Space (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Personal computer) before doing the gameplay. This promising sci-fi survival horror game features some well-thought out plot lines along with what looks like good visuals and a foreboding theme.

In the video below, you’ll learn more about the concepts behind Dead Space as the creators themselves walk you through the overview. It looks like their substitute plan to game creation is going along nicely, and you can be the judge of that when you push play. Enjoy!

Sands of Time - Image 1Resident video game seer Surfer Girl is back and she’s got some revelations and fun facts to boot in her May 2 post. Among the topics are connections between developers, new projects, exclusivity wheeling and dealing, plus a lot more. These are the items:

  • Propaganda Games‘ forthcoming PCS360 action-RPG is due out in 2010, “an original open world title” and I hear Oblivion is the game to beat/inspiration/reference/party hat supplier.
  • A few folks were wondering what exactly the connection between High Impact Games and Bionic Games is For starters, the two devs share senior folk such as Roberto Rodriguez and Mike Haller. In addition, the Bionic’s Lankershim office is where High Impact was originally located.
  • Fun fact: Ico was the game to beat/inspiration/reference/party hat supplier for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, pretty much everyone on that team played through Ico. From what I hear, Okami is the game to beat/inspiration/reference/party hat supplier for the forthcoming Prince of Persia.
  • If a quite reliable Parisian and a couple other Frenchmen are to be believed, Microsoft is attempting to get exclusivity rights to a Le Petit Prince (or in English, The Tiny Prince)
  • Double Helix is working on a “high profile comic book title” that will see release next year.

As a bit of clarification, Surfer Girl also posted this update: “Number four isn’t cryptic code to state that Microsoft is trying to purchase exclusivity to the new Prince of Persia game. According to a couple of Frenchmen, Microsoft is in negotiations with MKO Games to get exclusivity rights for their game based off The Tiny Prince.”

There you have it. As always, take these with a grain of salt. In this business, it’s almost always a safe bet to expect the unexpected.

Terminal Reality prefers working on Ghostbusters PS3 first before other versions - Image 1Sierra Entertainment’s Ghostbusters: the Video Game is definitely set to spook out gamers in various platforms such as Personal computer, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, DS. But making the multiple versions might be a difficult task.

According to Terminal Reality, the company responsible for developing the game, they like working with the PS3 version before tackling the Xbox 360 and PC versions. Terminal Reality’s president, Mark Randell, had a technical reason why they were going to take such a step.

Randell stated that unlike other consoles, the “multiprocessing model of the PS3 isn’t a general-purpose model.” The console itself utilizes six Synergetic Processing Units and one main processor at the same time. This is what sets it apart from the Xbox 360 and the Personal computer.

Randell continued that the Xbox 360 and the Personal computer “share a general-purpose multiprocessor coding model.” While the 360 puts into use three general-purpose PowerPC processors, the Personal computers use about one to four Intel or AMD processors.

Given the situation, the company has resolved that it’s easier to make the development of the game move from “specialized processors to general processors.” As Randall concluded:

We ve found that writing for the PS3 first and then porting to the 360 and Computer is a much simpler and more efficient procedure.

It might be a tiny difficult dealing with the PS3 version first, but it’ll be beneficial in the long run as they have the ability to port it to other consoles with much ease. We’ll just have to wait and see how the developers move on with making the game. More news and updates to come!

Blizzard Entertainment - Image 1As video game development evolves and becomes more robust, plenty of positions open up. It’s no secret that triple A titles require hundreds of staff members and millions of dollars. There’s a big window you can go through if you want to break into the industry, but if that’s not enough, you’d want to keep tabs on Blizzard Entertainment’s University Relations program.

The makers of highly acclaimed franchises such as Diablo, Warcraft, and Starcraft plan to expand by initiating students into the scene. Blizzard kicked things off when it hosted the Spring Career Fair in the University of California, and more events are coming soon.

To remain safe behind the wheel, whether it is on a race track or on the streets, requires 100 percent focus. If I allow myself to become distracted during the race it can cost me positions on the track, but driving distracted on the streets and highways can be extremely hazardous not only to the driver but to the other motorists on the road.

Other suggests of safe driving stressed out the negative effects of multitasking while on the wheel. Notably, Major George Daniels of Virginia State Police stated, “it only takes a few seconds to change a CD, grab a drink, dial a cell phone, crash your vehicle and change a life forever.”
