This just in, id Software has started production on Doom 4 and has opened hiring for the game’s producer, lead designer, lead animator, and more.
This is a pretty huge announcement considering what the Doom franchise means to gamers. Even id Software CEO Todd Hollenshead took some time to comment about the game and its importance to their company as well.
Doom is part of the id Software DNA and demands the greatest talent and brightest minds in the industry to bring the next installment of our flagship franchise to Earth. It’s critical for id Software to have the best creative minds in-house to develop games that meet the standards synonymous with our titles.
While details on this game have been rather sketchy, rumor has it that the game will be going cross-platform using their new proprietary engine called Tech 5 which, according to the company’s lead artist Kevin Cloud, is running great:
You don’t even have to worry about how it’s going to look on PS3 or 360. Right now we’ve got it running cross-platform running 60 hertz, and it looks really good.In terms of what artists are available to achieve–it’s something you have to see for yourself. I have the ability to state this, but you still won’t get it until you see it.

Time is slowly running out for Take-Two Interactive as the latest deadline from Electronic Arts regarding its US 2 billion bid to buy out the company is due to expire on Might 16. EA Vice President of corporate communications Jeff Brown tried pouring on the pressure by saying: “We’re not desperate and there’s a clock”.
Brown claimed that the delay of Take Two to accept any deals was merely a way to hike up these bid, considering the large success of the recently released Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3). EA made its initial move last February 24 and has received nothing so far from its push to acquire the company.
He further expounded on his initial statement with this explanation:
Part of our model for making this thing work at USD 2 billion is the assumption that if we have the ability to get this done in time to publish their games going into the Christmas holiday in ‘08 – because EA has an unchallenged publishing capability around the world – we could without question sell more units of those games than they could if they were on their own.
While Brown still expected the pursuit to continue, he mentioned that it will be a “50/50 proposition” at ideal. He believed that the addition of the Take Two team into the EA family would be a good combination, considering their creative prowess in making games.
In the end, he mentioned that “we just don’t need it [Take Two]” and that EA is still in the business of creating more games with a three year plan of explosive growth all the way into its fiscal year of 2011.

Sometimes, it’s nice to get news straight from the horse’s mouth. In a current interview, StarCraft 2 lead producer Chris Sigaty talked about the current developments that Blizzard has made with the game, specifically the game’s AI and the Zerg Swarm in StarCraft 2.
According to Sigaty, the AI operates on a different level than it did in the original StarCraft. Computer opponents no longer know everything about you, so they actually make the effort to gather intelligence this time around.
Furthermore, Sigaty also mentioned that while the Protoss are probably the most solid race as at this point in time, the Zerg have also gotten more placeholders since then (around 10-20 more). Blizzard is still experimenting with the Swarm; it’s practically making changes around each week, so you’ll see things like Infestors with the Dark Swarm skill and what not.
Finally, when quizzed as to which StarCraft 2 unit was the hardest one to take out, Sigaty admitted that the answer differs for each and each member of the Blizzard team. For Sigaty’s part, though, he’s glad that the medic was taken out of the game.
In any case, Chris Sigaty discusses the topics in a more in-depth fashion in the video below. Check it out:

You gotta hand it to Electronic Arts for innovating in the sports genre since the early days of video games. Just now, EA has announced it launched a new label to further expand its portfolio.
EA SPORTS Freestyle promises all the action you can get from sports, but with a twist to attract casual gamers and even your mom.
Peter Moore, who’s now in charge of EA Sports as president, stated:
The launch of EA SPORTS Freestyle is an exciting milestone in the evolution of the EA SPORTS brand. EA SPORTS Freestyle will be a perfect complement to our core portfolio of games that our loyal fans are deeply passionate about, and will provide compelling opportunities for new audiences looking for a lighter gaming experience and an easier entry point into EA SPORTS.
The first step, or leap if you will, is the launch of Facebreaker – an arcade-style boxing title set for release in September 2008 and the first new console IP from EA SPORTS since 2002.
It’s set to release on the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Two other titles are expected to be revealed and launch within 12 months.
