Mirror's Edge dev praises PS3 cell processor - Image 1In an interview with Videogamer, one of the developers behind Mirror’s Edge (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC) has spoken good things regarding Sony’s next-gen console.

Digital Illusions Creative Entertainment’s Sean Decker praised the PS3 cell processor because it has been able to let DICE studio push the resolution of the textures to a higher level.

Decker mentioned that “thanks to the breathtaking processing power of the PS3″, the company has been able to craft and develop its” vision of what the game really is.”

Decker was asked on what the cell processor has been able to do for the studio. He replied that there a lot of little things that they liked with it. One prime example would be the Sixaxis controls they’ve implemented in the game. But over all, Decker said:

The other thing is the Cell really allows us to push the resolution of our textures much higher and we’ve taken full advantage of that as well. So there’s a lot of little quirks to it that we really like and our engineers love as well as our designers.

When he was asked about the other versions of the game for the Xbox 360 and Computer, Decker replied with “each one is different.” He explained that they wanted “to balance out what’s most important in this game and how you want to bring that out in each one of them.” So, if the PS3 version will have stunning graphics, the other versions might highlight something else.

Because we can’t get enough of grunts in space and non-stop shooting action on Personal computer, here’s a trailer of Sega and Gas Powered GamesSpace Siege. Since we last saw the promising third-person shooter, the out-of-this-world endeavor by the creators of Dungeon Siege looks tighter than ever.

By tight, we mean every corner is filled with enemy critters and each moment has the protagonist dancing to the tune of gunfire. The only downside in this Space Siege video stated to be a “theatrical trailer” is its poor framerate – other facets are acceptable, considering it’s just one of those titles you’d pick up to kill things for a few minutes.

Call of Duty 5 - Image 1After Surfer Girl’s good news (rather, good rumor) about the upcoming Call of Duty 5, here comes another news that would surely perk up the ears of those following the game’s development: according to some sources, Call of Duty 5 is now currently playable and is going through quality assurance phase.

As previously hinted on, the series’ former developer Infinity Ward will not be working on the next Call of Duty, with Activision’s Treyarch taking it’s place, the same developing team that dealt with Call of Duty 3. They will release the title for the following consoles: Xbox 360, PS3, PC, NintendoDS, and the PS2, and even the Wii.

So what can we anticipate from COD5? According to the same sources, the game will be set in the World War II timeline, in the Pacific. Call of Duty 5 is also rumored to use the same engine as Call of Duty 4.

It’ll be just a matter of time until we see the demo (hopefull playable), then. Do stay tuned for more updates!

Spore - Image 1Fresh off the announcement that BioWare’s Mass Effect for the PC won’t use SecuROM’s 10-day online re-authentication feature, a similar announcement was given out by Will Wright’s Spore team.

Like Mass Effect, the much-awaited simulation game won’t use SecuROM’s process. Instead, a more convenient modification will be employed to please gamers and defend the IP from pirates.

Here are some excerpts of the Spore team’s response to the concerns about their announcement:

  • We authenticate your game on the internet when you install and launch it the first time.
  • We’ll re-authenticate when a player uses online features, downloads new content or a patch for their game.
  • The new system means you don’t have to play with the disc in your computer. And if you’re like me, always losing discs, this will be a massive benefit.
  • You’ll still be able to install and play on multiple computers.
  • You can play offline.

There you’ve it. The Spore team then encourages everyone to go online and play the game with other people so they have the ability to share creatures and automobiles to fully experience the title’s essence. No need to tell us that, because that’s one of the first things we’ll be doing when it finally arrives.
