Tecmo moves to shut Tomonobu Itagaki up - Image 1In case you blinked and missed it, Tomonobu Itagaki, famed for his work on the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden franchises, had announced that he’ll leave Team Ninja come July.

He also made the sentiments of his departure clear when he slapped Tecmo with a lawsuit when he made the announcement.

The statement he released announcing his departure revealed that Tecmo failed to deliver on a completion bonus for Dead or Alive 4. Tecmo responded to this, explaining that the promised bonus was made by the company’s previous management.

Things started to spin out of control after that. As many as three dozen Team Ninja members announced their departure from the company due to their own gripes with the management, saying that for years, they’ve been shorthanded the pay they were due. Not soon after, over 300 Tecmo employees followed Itagaki’s example and took their issues with the company to court.

In an effort to minimize further damage Itagaki might cause, Tecmo has issued a gagging order on him. Basically, they just told him to shut up in legalese. Famitsu reports the contents of the gagging order:

  • He is not allowed to take confidential information outside of the company.
  • He is not allowed to talk about the business of the company or criticize the business of the company.
  • He is not allowed to make inflammatory remarks which might hurt the company s business.
  • He is not granted to talk to the media regarding the company s business.

Admittedly, we can’t get enough of Valve Corporation’s humorous introduction videos for Team Fortress 2’s (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) character classes. That said, the devs have just released a new “Meet the Team” video, with this latest clip introducing everybody’s favorite (or hated, depending on whose side you’re on) dead eye: The Sniper.

So what does it take to be capable shot? More than just a steady hand, it looks like the job entails patience, a pot of coffee, and several jars for your occasional restroom break. Unglamorous, perhaps, but it’s all worth it when you can head-shot the opposition before they ever see you.

The video is available for viewing below. Enjoy the clip, and be sure to keep on the lookout in case Valve gets around to introducing the rest of the crew. On that note, we’re wondering how they’re planning to do the Pyro guy, given he’s plain incomprehensible.

EA CEO John Riccitiello comments on Warhammer Online and Boom Blox - Image 1Speaking at the current William Blair & Company Annual Growth Stock Conference, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello commented on two of his company’s titles: Boom Blox, and Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.

With regards to Warhammer, Riccitiello said that he believes it would be a strong entry into MMO gaming. The exec did note that they didn’t anticipate it to rival Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft, even though they have high hopes for Warhammer’s financial returns.

On the console side of the discussion, Riccitiello also commented on Boom Blox’s sales, which amounted to just 60,000 sales as of May (according to NPD reports):

Right now, Boom Blox has met our expectations internally based on the model that was put forward by Kathy and her team. It has continued to sell well – it did break into the Top Ten for the Wii.

Riccitiello noted EA’s relative lack of experience in handling casual games, which might partly explain Boom Blox’s lackluster performance on the shelves. “To be honest, I think everything in casual makes us all challenge our assumptions,” he stated.

Speaking to investors at the conference, Riccitiello also assured investors of the potential profitability of BioWare’s upcoming new RPG for the Personal computer platform, Dragon Age:

Dragon Age speaks to a very, very, very important audience. This is a core RPG created for fans that love BioWare, and it’s about dragons. This isn’t risky. This is an audience that we know, that we have the ability to deliver for and generate very substantial profits by doing so.

Square Enix's List of games - Image 1More details have come in today regarding Square Enixupcoming party in August.

While we may already know what games are going to be shown at DKΣ3713, we previously didn’t know which ones would actually be playable. Now, it’s time to change that.

Of the various games listed, it seems only the PSP and DS games will be getting demos. Yes folks, that unfortunately means that Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII will only be getting trailers.

However, it does mean that Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Dissidia: Final Fantasy and Sigma Harmonics will be getting playable demos at the party.
