The Wheelman cover art - Image 1We’ve seen Vin Diesel shift the action all the way to the fifth gear in The Fast and The Furious. And he certainly isn’t hitting the brakes anytime soon on automobile gymnastics and cool racing dramas.

As you may very well know, Vin Diesel is the lead star in Midway’s The Wheelman, revving up for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3. In this game, the former Triple X agent shares his character render to play an undercover agent – and unsurprisingly – a highly skilled driver. His mission, to make his way into the Barcelona underworld and uncover a heist.

Tecmo - Image 1The events that followed Ninja Gaiden 2’s launch haven’t been too lovely for Tecmo. For one, star developer Tomonobu Itagaki has left the fold and it didn’t take long for other key Team Ninja members to follow suit. Today, Japanese website Jiji reports that the long time publishers are in even more hot water.

Disgruntled Tecmo employees have apparently filed an 8.3 million yen (US$77,000) lawsuit against their employer for several violations of Japanese labor laws. The case filed in court represents some 300 Tecmo employees with salary disputes.

According to the lawsuit, Tecmo has been illegally placing employees under “flexible schedules” for four years now. This allegedly allowed the company to get away with not paying hundreds of hours’ worth of overtime wages. This forced the hand of the Tecmo Labor Union to take immediate action.

Other allegations against the game company include the falsification of corporate documents and cover-ups of record-keeping papers. We’ll give you more updates as they come.

While Solid Snake is taking over Japan with epic numbers in tow, the UK is likewise celebrating Konami’s latest stealth title. In fact, Metal Gear Solid 4 has actually debuted straight to the top of the UK software charts for the period of June 9 to June 15.

With MGS4 dominating the pack, Lego Indiana Jones is chased by a rolling boulder down to the second spot. In turn, Niko Bellic slips down another rank with GTA4 holding third place.

For a PS3-exclusive to snuff out the multiplatform success of Lego Indy… That’s really saying something. What’s more is that MGS4’s success only counts for three days of the total week of the chart’s timespan. MGS4 was released on the 12th – a Thursday – remember? Imagine that, eh?

In terms of PS3 launch week sales, Guns of the Patriots now sits comfortably between Grand Theft Auto 4 and Gran Trusimo 5: Prologue as the UK’s second-fastest PS3 title. And if it’s a matter of comparing MGS4 to the rest of the Metal Gear saga’s UK launch weeks, the latest iteration in the franchise is stuck squarely between MGS2 (with MGS4 down by 24,000 units) and MGS3 (with MGS4 ahead by 14,000 units).

Meanwhile, other mainstays are still around: Mario & Sonic still running up the track, Dr. Kawashima picking at everyone’s brain cells, and PES 2008 still kicking to stay alive. Also debuting this week is Civilization Revolution from civ-sim guru Sid Meier.

Here are the top 20 games in the UK for week ending June 15, 2008:

  1. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
  2. Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
  3. Grand Theft Auto IV
  4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games
  5. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training
  6. Race Driver: GRiD
  7. Wii Play
