Logo of Take-Two Interactive - Image 1After the Federal Trade Commission gave its blessing to continue merger negotiations, Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive have finally begun its shut door meeting regarding the deal. However, it seems that both celebrations will be rather tight-lipped regarding the details of the meeting.

EA made a filing yesterday with the Securities and Exchange Commission, which mentions the “secret negotiations” that it will be conducting with Take-Two. Here’s an excerpt from the stated statement:

On August 25, 2008, [EA] and [T2] entered into the confidentiality agreement contemplated by the letter of August 17, 2008 from Strauss Zelnick, Executive Chairman of the Board of Directors of Take-Two to John Riccitiello, Chief Executive Officer of EA, and the letter of August 18 from Mr. Riccitiello to Mr. Zelnick.

The terms of the confidentiality agreement prohibit each of EA and Take-Two from, among other things, publicly disclosing the status or terms of any discussions or negotiations between EA and Take-Two unless EA or Take-Two notifies the other that it is terminating discussions. As a result, EA does not intend to make any further announcements regarding the status of any discussions or negotiations with Take-Two unless and until discussions between EA and Take-Two have been terminated or such parties have entered into a transaction. As previously disclosed, EA now requires due diligence to support any proposal to acquire Take-Two and there can be no assurance that any proposal, negotiations or transaction will result.

EA is also looking into Take-Two’s three year game release schedule. Rest assured that another Grand Theft Auto title will definitely be included in the list, among other things. In any case, we’ll just have to keep our eyes and ears open on any news regarding the outcome of the ongoing talks between the two companies.

Have you guys watched the Lullaby Trailer that Electronic Arts released for Dead Space back in E3? Hella creepy. My goosebumps had goosebumps. It’s not surprising that the UK’s classification board gave the game an 18 rating.

Also one tidbit of information from the BBFC’s filing. The game will have little less than an hour’s worth of cut scenes. I wonder how much blood and dismemberment they can actually squeeze into that hour. Just no more lullabies, please.

In case you were wondering, the ESRB gave the game an M rating. Big surprise. Anyway, here’s the lullaby trailer again for you. Enjoy. The game will come out this October 21 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Computer.

Edge unveils new Most Wanted Golden Joystick - Image 1At the Golden Joystick Awards, we get to vote for the best games we’ve played this year. Sometimes though, there are games in development that are looking so good that they deserve an award themselves.

I can name several off the top of my head – Heavy Rain, Prince of Persia, and Mirror’s Edge. Fortunately, they’re all part of the new category that the Golden Joystick Awards opened up for us to vote in: the Edge Most Wanted Golden Joystick. It lets us vote for our most anticipated game that’s currently in development.

There are 10 games up for the award. Now if only I have the ability to decide which one to vote for. I’m wondering why the Fabula Nova Crystallis series (otherwise known as the Final Fantasy XIII collection) isn’t on there. I guess it’s because the release date is too far off? Anyway, it’s our opportunity to give developers the recognition they deserve.

Here’s the shortlist of games you can vote for in the “Most Wanted” category. You can vote by following the source link below:

  • Mirror s Edge
  • Infamous
  • Left 4 Dead
  • Fallout 3
  • Prince Of Persia
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Heavy Rain
  • Animal Crossing: City Folk
  • Bayonetta
  • Far Cry 2

And you definitely should be. We just got whiff of the full list of exhibitors to be present at this year’s event. Just so you know (are you packing your bags yet?), the event is to be held from October 9 to 12; the first two days being the business days, while the final two would be open to the public.

Now for the list! We see Sony and Square Enix sitting side by side there, and there’s Microsoft, Level-5, Sega, Koei, Tecmo, Capcom, EA, and D3Publisher populating the list too. But wait… where’s Nintendo? Going MIA again like last year, eh? Well, I’m sure a lot of third-parties are there to show some Nintendo DS and Wii games.

Given these exhibitors… Think you can already anticipate what kind of announcements to find? Will we see new games or just updates on previously announced games? It’s definitely getting my heart pumping… It’s GAME time!

Quest for Glory 2 gets an upgrade - Image 1Almost 18 years ago, there was a really cool adventure game for the PC and Amiga systems by the name of Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire. By today’s standards, the game might seem a bit rough around the edges, but a team by the name of AGD Interactive has updated the original game to suit today’s sensibilities.

Among other things, the VGA graphics have been updated, the timing of certain real-time puzzles have been made easier, and there are now dialog trees for you to follow instead of guessing the proper text you’ve to input to get everything to play out properly. Best of all, this update of the game is a totally free download available from the website linked below.

In any event, if you’re looking for a quality title to pass some time with, you can’t beat this remake, which has managed to stand the test of time. Enjoy!

Left 4 Dead Delayed - Image 1

Left 4 Dead (Computer, Xbox 360) has been delayed on account of zombies – well, no, but it sounds much more fun than the official one Valve gave. According to the official announcement, the game has been delayed to coincide with the 10th year anniversary of the release of Half-Life, the studio’s first game.

Don’t worry though, the game will still be released this November – only a 14-day delay, unlike the last time when it was delayed by months. I guess it’s a small consolation. The game will now be released on November 20. You can watch the vid after the source link so you can hear the announcement for yourself.

It might be a wise marketing decision on their part, considering how Gears of War 2 will be released on November 7. If Left 4 Dead will release on November 4 as previously planned, well, let’s just say it might be left for dead.

Doug Lombardi of Valve Corporation - Image 1Skeptics are now having a change of heart towards the previously doubted PlayStation 3 console of Sony, and Valve is leading the pack. Hungry enough to get a piece of the PS3 pie to eat their own words, eh?

They’ve been very vocal about their dislike for the PS3. Gabe Newell isn’t obviously a fan, and the company doesn’t do PS3. But it looks like that’s about to change now. Doug Lombardi has seen the light, so to talk, and told CVG that the console’s success has got them rethinking about their position on making games for it.

“We’re always evaluating what’s happening in the marketplace and certainly something that’s happening in the last couple of months is that Sony’s managed to sell some boxes.” An astute observation coming from Lombardi.

The logical thing to do in business then is to put aside personal preferences and go with what’s gonna be good for the company. And as the current stats would support, the PS3 is indeed a viable console for Valve to invest in.

The PC remains to be their top pick, though, with the Xbox 360 coming in at second place because of hardware similarities, Lombardi explains. But fact remains that the PS3 is getting their groove on in the race now, and so they’ve “got to re-evaluate that for what it is.”

So does that mean there’s now a larger chance for Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, Computer) to be coming to the PS3? “It’s 50-50 right now,” Lombardi replies. Apparently, there already are some speaks brewing about the PS3 version seeing as how the game is getting all the right exposure and it’s looking to be a hit.

Hopefully it’s not too late for Valve to kiss and make up with Sony after all the harsh words stated. Let’s hope they don’t suffer the same fate as Charlie the Unicorn. Shun the non-believeeeer… Shuuuunnnn-a.
